Top marks at the Zero Waste Awards

Apleona UK is one of just four businesses to receive a 5-star rating in the 2023 Zero Waste Awards.

The Awards recognise and reward organisations for their efforts to reduce the amount of resources they waste. Entrants are assigned a ranking by industry experts under a star system. Five stars, the highest award, means an organisation has invested in the principle of continuous improvement and actively demonstrates Zero Waste achievements.

Jacqui Paice, Apleona UK’s Managing Director comments: “As a large FM provider, we recognise our role in embedding waste avoidance in our processes and that of our clients. Last year we received 4 stars, and this extra star reflects our ongoing commitment to reduce environmental impact.

We set ourselves an improvement target to increase waste recycling at our locations and our year-to-date 2023 report shows that we’re now recycling 87% of waste. We have increased our efforts to segregate all recyclable waste and also continue to support our clients in avoiding waste through furniture repairs and donations to local charities. At the heart of making these changes is our people and the support from us all in the business is required to achieve this.”

Katerina Robinson, Apleona UK’s Sustainability Manager, adds: “We continue to look for opportunities to minimise waste or recycle more with many of the initiatives described in our entry were cost-free. We understand that training our employees with this knowledge is crucial, which is why we have implemented Waste Workshops.

Additionally, there are choices to be made with procuring products and how we deliver our services. For example, chemical-free cleaning has become a standard offering to all new and existing clients. Our next key focus is reducing food waste and remaining disposables from our catering services, as well as composting.”

The Zero Waste Awards took place in September.
