Apleona and BMS Green Apple Award win

Gold status Green Apple Award

Apleona UK proudly received Gold status in the Green Apple Environment Awards for our environmental achievements with pharmaceutical client Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS). This is Apleona’s fifth Green Apple award over the past three years.

We competed against more than 1000 other nominations and Apleona’s Business Unit Services Director John Davies and Regional Operations Manager Jon Greenhalgh were presented with the trophy and certificate at a glittering presentation ceremony hosted at the House of Lords, London, in November.

Apleona provides comprehensive services including mechanical and electrical maintenance, security, catering, and cleaning across BMS’ three UK sites, supported by a dedicated team of 78 Apleona staff members.

At the awards show, the judges commended Apleona for seamlessly integrating innovation and sustainability into daily operations across these BMS sites. This included pioneering initiatives such as using drone technology to detect heat losses, transitioning to fully electric vehicles, and deploying autonomous lawnmowers.

Apleona also implemented predictive asset maintenance through our proprietary Eastway system with IoT sensors, significantly enhancing energy efficiency, reducing GMP deviation events, and improving operational reliability.

Additionally, Apleona supported BMS in adopting chemical-free cleaning methods, reducing water usage with advanced technologies, and promoting the circular economy by installing automated dispensers for paper towels, eliminating over 130,000 disposable cups annually, and reducing plastic bottle usage by installing flavour-infused water taps.

We also collaborated to provide eco-friendly period products in female bathrooms and harnessed rainwater to irrigate the herb garden and on-site vegetables. All of these initiatives have resulted in measurable improvements in carbon emissions, energy and water efficiency, and waste reduction, while enhancing occupant wellbeing and exemplifying a truly sustainable workplace, making Apleona and Bristol Myers Squibb well-deserved recipients of this gold Green Apple award.

The Green Apple Awards began in 1994 and have become established as the country’s major recognition for environmental endeavour among companies, councils, communities and countries.

The awards are organised by The Green Organisation - an international, independent, non-political, non-profit environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.
