The Projects team successfully completed a complex design and build installation of an Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) for University of Hertfordshire, marking the uni’s first project of this kind as part of their natural gas decarbonisation plan.

The design and build was based on a performance specification from the University’s consultant. Rigorous due diligence and pre-validation of designs were required to optimise plant performance and manage programme changes, minimising disruption to teaching.

The project involved removing a chiller and two pressure jet boilers from the Weston Auditorium at Hatfield Campus, replacing them with new Air Source Heat Pumps, along with necessary upgrades to pipes and pumps.

Experts in decarbonisation

The project showcases the University’s first Air Source Heat Pump installation, a key component of their natural gas decarbonisation plan.

The installation has provided efficient heating and cooling supplies to the Weston Auditorium Building Plant

It has eliminated hot/cold reactive call-outs previously experience with natural gas boilers and heavy refrigerant chillers.
